FAQs

Would it be okay if I had never trained before?

Everyone can benefit from Amsterdam Barbell Club training and programs, even if you are detrained, sedentary, or unathletic. With our unique appproach and individualised programing you can efficiently establish a baseline strength and conditioning that can be built on over time.

Can I train at ABC if I am new to barbell, old, injured, unathletic, or otherwise concerned about barbell training?

Almost anyone can do the program since it is tailored to them, and we can customise it based on their specific situation. Our youngest athlete is 19 and our oldest is 76. Almost 2/4 are woman and more than 80% never did barbell training before. You can get more detailed feedback by completing the contact form and telling us about yourself. Improve conditioning and get strong with strength training.

How can I benefit from the tailored program?

Before our 30s we can significantly improve performance, strength and aerobic capacity for any sports or challenge we face in life. As we hit our 30s, we bid farewell to about 3-8% of our muscle mass each decade. Once we cross 40, we can say goodbye to around 1% of our muscle size every year and our strength and power decline by about 3-5% yearly. So, that weekly yoga, spinning, or occasional 5k run won't cut it. Are you just going to let that happen?

How does being strong helps regulate blood sugar?

Your muscles are like your glucose disposal units. The thin line between you and severe Type 2 Diabetes might be a teaspoon of extra glucose in your blood. A big part of regulating blood sugar is having muscles that can handle glucose and being insulin-sensitive.

Do I need any special equipment?

You only need a pair of shorts or nonrestrictive pants on your first day. Wear long socks with your shorts if you want to protect your shins during deadlifts, cleans, power cleans and rope climbs. It is recommended to wear a cotton t-shirt and sturdy, hard-soled shoes for strength and more appropriate gear for Conditioning.
